FAMILY HISTORY
(c) John Hart (1794-1875) was born 3rd October 1794 in Ranton, Staffordshire, England. In 1818 he married Lucy Rusher who was born in Eynsham, Oxford, England. In 1839 they emigrated to Australia on the 'Lady Liford'. Thomas Rusher Hart (1821) arrived in Australia on 7th June 1839 on the 'Sir Charles Forbes'. Thomas's occupation was that of 'Land Speculator'.
(d) Seth Mattison Hart (1828-1911) was born on 10th October 1828 in Birmigham, Warwickshire, England. He married Thirza Dix who was born on 26th March 1831 in Lancashire, England. He emigrated first to Australia and then on to New Zealand. On the 23rd November 1872 Seth was granted land in Taratahi Plain's (near Carterton) in New Zealand by the Crown Lands Office based in Wellington. Grant No 3498.
* Herbert Ernest Hart became a Knight Of The British Empire in June 1935. A record of his life and achievements can be found on-line in the Dictionary of NZ Biography along with a photograph of Herbert wearing his medals. Herbert was born at Taratahi, near Carterton on 13th October 1882. Herbert attended the Dalefield School and Carterton Primary Scholls between 1887 & 1895. In 1902 he enlisted in the Ninth NZ Contingent for the South African War. Upon his return Herbert undertook part time legal studies. He married Minnie on 8th April 1903 at Carterton, New Zealand. Herberts occupations are listed as Lawyer, Military Leader and Public Administrator.
