FAMILY HISTORY
(d) Robert Sanson (1809- ) married Ann Lucas. On the 25th March 1841 they left Gravesend on the 'SS Tyne' arriving in Wellington, New Zealand on the 9th August 1841. Daughter Mary Ann Tyne Sanson was born in New Zealand waters on the 6th August 1841. Robert Sanson followed the custom for naming children, born at sea ,after the vesel they were travelling on and named his daughter Mary Ann Tyne Sanson was after ship the 'SS Tyne' .
(e) Mary Anne Tyne Sanson (1841- ) was conceived in England but born on New Zealand water whilst her parents were still onboard the 'SS Tyne' on the 6th August 1841, the day the ship arrived in New Zealand. As was custonary the ships name was incorporated into her name. On the 29th January 1862 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand she married Samuel John Tocker. He was born in 1835 and christened on the 22 February 1835 in Tywardreath, Cornwall, England by his parents Josiah Tocker and Elizabeth Sleeman. Mary & Samuel Tocker had 13 children born between 1862 and 1884 in New Zealand.
(e ) William Sanson ( -1911) married Agnes Galloway in 1854. Agne's sister, Margaret Galloway married William's brother Thomas Henry Sanson (1839-1901) see below. Agnes death was due to her tragically drowning in the Paramanui River near Wellington along with her infant son Thomas Alfred Sanson on the 15th January 1873 (some reports say this could be February). William remarried to Isabella Nairn two years after his first wife, Agnes had died.
(e) Thomas Henry Sanson (1839-1901) married in 1861 Margaret Galloway (1845- ) . Margaret was the sister of his brothers William's wife Agnes Galloway see above . Thomas and his brother William Sanson assisted brothers William & Alex Bailey in the working of the Pukapukatea Mill at at time when workers were hard to find. It was their business to bring the logs to the mill from one side of the river to the other side. There was interuptions in this work due to differences with the Native's (Maori) with regards to adjustments and valuation of royalties. There was one occassion that is recalled when William Bailey found that the bullock team that Thomas was driving returned to the mill unyolked minus Thomas. It was found that the Maoris had set the team adrift and that the Maori women were dragging Thomas around by his hair and generally harrassing him. It is known that Alfred & Margaret were born in the small Cottages provided for the swa millers & their families. In later years Thomas acquired a section from the Hutt Small farmers Association.
(f) Thomas B Sanson (1875-1943) was born on the 21st September 1875 in Sanson, Manawatu, New Zealand to Thomas & Margaret Sanson. Thomas married twice. First to Martha Elizabeth Garnett in 1897 in Bulls, New Zealand and then to Annie Signel on the 26th February 1926 also in Sanson. He farmed land at Whatawhata which he lost in August 1911 and moved back to Sanson where he remained living next to the Blacksmiths shop for many years. After retirement he moved to Hastings for a short time but returned to live in Sanson. He died on the 26th september 1943 in Bulls, New Zealand and is burried wit his wife.
