FAMILY HISTORY

         (d) William Tannahill  (1819-    ) was born in 1819 in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland to parents William Tannahill and Helen Burns. William (1819) arrived in New Zealand on the 'Bengal Merchant' on 20th February 1840. Elizabeth Dugald (later to become his wife) was also a passenger on the same ship aged 19 and listed as a servant. William's occupation, on the 1839 passenger list, was said that of Labouer. William and Elizabeth married two months after arriving in New Zealand on the 5th April 1840 in Wellington.
