FAMILY HISTORY
(g) John Mathers (1853-1911) was born in County Armah, Ireland in 17th May 1853. John married Mildred Minnie Holland on the 2nd February 1892 in Foxton, New Zealand. Mildred was born in Colchester, England on 27th May 1872 to parents Michael Holland and Louisa Dougherty. Louisa, her mother was born in Canada. John and Mildred had four children but only two survived. A daughter, Eileen (known as Letticia) was born on the 4th June 1897 in Palmerston, North, new Zealand and just over a month later at the age of 25 Mildred tragically died. Six years after her death John remarried. He married Mildred's older sister Alice Alma Holland who was born in 1879. John and Mildred's two surviving children, Eileen (Letticia) and Minnie May were fostered or adopted out. John and Alice had three children by their marriage, John, Archibald and Mildred.
