FAMILY HISTORY

(c) John Flower (abt 1771-    ) married Catherine Sainsbury on the 2nd January 1808 in Titchfield, Hampshire. John was listed on the 1851 Census as an Indpendant Minister at Tichfield [sic].

(d) John Flower (1809-1881), son of above, was born on the 6th March 1809 and Christened on the 14th May 1809 in the Independant Church, Tictchfield (Tichfield - Havant), Hampshire. John married Henrietta. They were transfered from Tichfield, Hampshire to Beccles, Suffolk and John became Minister of the Hungate Street Chapel. There are many newspaper articles that can be found for this family but none so sad as that reporting the death of their 14 year old daughter ,also, named Henristta. She was accidently shot by her 13 year old brother Alfred (see under Newspaper articles below).

(f) William Tacon Flower (1877-    ) married Ellen Elizabeth Bottle. Ellen was the daughter of Jonathan Tebbs Bottle. Jonathan was a Poet, Aritect and a much respected member of the community. Upon his death he left, in his Will, all his belongings to his son inlaw,William Tacon Flowers (son in-law) and devised and bequeathed that after exspenses for his funeral, and debts that the rest be placed into trust for Ellen. Her father died in 1912 and Probate of the will was granted on the 13th of january 1913. As aritect for the new General Hospital Jonathan made the presentation to HRH the Prince of Wales - later to become King Edward V11 who laid the foundation stone.

1865 BANKRUPT:  JB Corbyn, Chemist & Druggist - New Market - 26th Dec 1865.  (This business was taken over by William Flower - see article below which was posted six weeks after this one)

15th FEB 1866:  WILLIAM FLOWER chemist Market Place, Beccles (successor to JB Corbyn) Begs to call attention to the following list of Articles, which he keeps constantly in stock, in addition to those usually sold by Chemist & Druggist. Gastokentron, an excellent sauce. Burgess Essence of Anchoves. Croose & Blackwell's fresh Lobsters. Mango Chutnee [sic], Soy, Curry Pwd, and other condiments. A large assortments of Pickles, Sauces etc. Pickling Vinegar, Strong & pure. Genuine Durham Mustard. Spices of the best quality. Best Russian Isinglass. Perfumery in all its branches. Bouqets, Essences, Schets etc. Fine Turkey and Honeycomb Sponges, at reduced prices. Hair brushes & Combs. Tooth Nail and Clothes Brushes. Promades, Washes, and Oils for the Hair. Odonts, Champorated and other Dentrices. Edu de Colgne, Lavender Water, Toilet Vinegar etc. Meerchaum and Wodden Pipes in great variety. A choice selection of Cigars - British and Foreign. Tabacco - already noted for its excellence. Agent for Hornimen's Teas. Patent Medicine. (This article refers to (e) William Flower (1844-    )prior to his marriage to Jane Tacon in 1869).

   7th AUG 1866: FATAL ACCIDENT Rev and Mrs Flower visiting Mr Hambly, farmer from Ellough. Their 13 year old son, Alfred took a gun from rope suspended from ceiling, being told it was not loaded - shot and killed his 14 year old sister Henrietta, who was standing a few feet away. (This article refers to death of (e) Henrietta Flower (1852-1866) in a tragic accident involving her younger brother (e) Alfred Flower (1853-    ) see tree above).

20th NOV 1866:  PENNY READINGS - Rev Hartley "Pope's Essay on Man". W Flower "The Idiot Boy"; Other readers Buck & Law. (This probably refers to (e) William Flower (1844-    )

  1900 BECCLES WEEKLY: DEATH of Mrs Flower, widow of the late John Flower (who died in 1881), died at her son's residence in [11] New Market, aged 86. Became  a member of Beccles Church by transfer from Tichfield, Hants in 1841. Conducted for many years the Young Men Bible Class .....  opened her House to help them in secular. Subjects such as Maths, Geography and even Botany, were taugh by her to those who wanted to learn. One of the founders of the Clothing Club. Strove to encourage thrift and to make the most of small savings. Had 3 sons. (This refers to (d) Henrietta Unknown (abt 1814-1900) wife of Rev John Flower)

18th MAY 1902: A large congregation was present at the PSA meeting to welcome Mr John Flower, who gave address upon "Why we are Protestants. (Yet to link this to this family)
