FAMILY HISTORY
(c) Thomas Cain (1806-1887) was born in 1806 in Friern Barnet, Whetstone (also spelt Whitstone or Wheatstone in various records). Thomas married twice but his second marriage has not known children. Thomas married Charlotte Ebben. Charlotte was the daughter of Joseph Ebben and Sarah Reed. Joseph was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire and Sarah was born in Saffron Walden in Essex. Thomas Cain died aged 81 in Kentish Town on the 20th March 1887.
(d) Maria Cain (1833-1895) was born on the 25th March 1833. Some records say Coney Hatch whilst others say she was born in Whitstone. The 1841 Census for Kentish Town gives her birth as Whitstone. (This is recorded as Whetstone or Wheatstone also). Her father and siblings William, Sarah and Mary were also born here. Maria was Christened on the 28th April 1833 in Friern Barnet. In the 1861 Census for 6 Raglan Street, Kentish Town Thomas (Maria's father) lists his birth place as Friern Barnet too. Maria married William Compton on the 24th December 1853 in Staines, Stanwell, Windsor. William and Maria Compton had three children in England but only one of the three lived to emigrated to New Zealand with them. Charlotte Compton was born in 1859 and the next child, Rhoda, was born in New Zealand in 1861 making their emigration to New Zealand between 1859-61.
(e) Charlotte Cain (1869- ) was christened on the 24th January 1969 in Silton, Dorset, England.
(e) William Cain (1862- ) was a Blacksmith working for the Railway. In 1881 he was in Acton and in 1891 employed as a Blacksmith for the Railway. In 1891 he was still a Blacksmith working for the RN W Railway but living at number 59 Copeswood Road, Watford. His wife, Isabella was born in Barnet, Hertsfordshire and their child, also William, was born in Willesdon, Middlesex in 1887.
(e) James L Cain (1870- ) was employed on the Railway. In 1891 he was working as a Engine Stoker and in 1901 he had become an Engine Driver. He was living, in 1901, at 80 Mordaunt Road with his wife and child, Ellen. Ellen had been born in Willesden in 1897.
